male chest contour

Breast augmentation is a common procedure for women, with little or no stigma left attached. But a lack of size or definition in the chest doesn't just affect women, and a growing number of men are opting-in for surgical enhancement of the pectoral muscles. This is especially the case in men who find it difficult to enhance their pectoral muscles through exercise.

No more tears, no more strains

The appearance of the chest and pectoral muscles is a point of contention for many men, who would like to enhance the size of their chest. Much in the same way that women seek breast augmentation surgery to feel more feminine and confident about their bodies, many male pectoral implant patients find that their surgery has a tremendous impact on their self-esteem and allows them to feel more masculine.

How is pectoral implant surgery carried out?

The surgery is similar to a female breast augmentation. The type of implant used for pectoral enhancement contains silicone which feels firmer than a female breast implant. The implant is inserted using an incision in the armpit and is positioned beneath the existing pectoral muscle.
Pectoral implant surgery can take between one to one and a half hours to perform and is always performed under general anaesthetic. After your procedure is complete, you will be expected to stay in the hospital overnight while you recover from the effects of the anaesthetic.

What is the recovery?

You will need to wear a compression garment during the healing process. There may be some mild bruising and swelling which subsides within 2 weeks. You will need to rest for 1 to 2 weeks before returning to work and it is important to refrain from exercise for 6 weeks.

What are the risks of surgery?

The potential risks of surgery include infection although the use of antibiotics minimises this risk. Mild bleeding may occur in rare cases and can result in a return to surgery in the first 24 hours after surgery. Also, there can be some degree of loss of feeling in the nipple area. The other main consideration is the long-term requirement to have implants replaced in the future.
